81-year-old Fla. woman arrested, held without bond — for feeding bears
Sun Feb 2, 2014
It's a very good thing that she is no longer feeding the bears. However, this highlights the huge problem we have of trying to deal with mental health issues within the prison system, rather than through a health care system designed to address mental health.
'People are eating cats': Starvation, deaths plague Syria camp
Mon Feb 3, 2014
I agree. I feel terrible for the people, and I don't judge them, at all, for doing what they need to survive and protect their children, but it still makes me terribly sad. I have been blessed to have cats in the home during my whole life, and they bring so much joy and love with them. A house is no …
Facebook like an infectious disease, will lose 80 percent of users, says Princeton study

I could see that.
Brrrr: Cold lingers, with chance of more snow ahead
Wed Jan 22, 2014
High in Chelsea, Vermont today expected to be -6. Wind chills of -30F today, colder overnight. It's winter. It has its own challenges and also its own beauty. Gas up the car, load up the woodstove, put on long underwear and wool socks, and hunker down. It will pass and before you know it, people wil …
Man gets eight months in prison for slapping toddler on plane
Mon Jan 6, 2014
No one wants to listen to overly-entitled, narcissistic, selfish a-holes who complain about children being who they are, and yet here you all are, spewing the same ridiculous, hateful, intolerant horse poop. Please. Grow up and learn some empathy, compassion, tolerance and human decency. You only em …
Non-genetically tweaked Cheerios more marketing boon than health boost
Fri Jan 3, 2014
In reply to: Pragmatic-3918582 #67.1 And what about making bees sick, you know, the pollinators that support all life on earth? Just because some "expert" who very likely has a financial stake in supporting these crops says there are no threats to human health, does not make it so. The same was said …
DiGiorno dumps dairy farm after NBC shows company video of alleged abuse
Tue Dec 10, 2013
Hi Janet. I'm a life-long vegetarian. I think veganism is smart and ecologically responsible, and I'm a big supporter. However, I don't believe this is the ONLY way to stop this abuse. 1. If you are going to eat meat (many people do not wish to give up meat, for whatever reason), you can raise your …
Vatican says talk of female cardinals 'not remotely realistic'
Tue Nov 5, 2013
So...Pope Francis seems pretty cool...but the Catholic Church is still hanging on to total sexism and bigotry for no discernable reason, at least for now? Honestly I don't understand what the objection would be, does anyone actually believe that men can be spiritual but women can't? Another one of t …
High unemployment? Blame high home ownership, study says
Fri Nov 1, 2013
Tired of this line. Olive Garden reduced its labor force because its shareholders are greedy shameless a-holes who refuse to let go of even a small portion of their profit, so they pass the hurt to the workers rather than be responsible, contributing citizens who are willing to do their part. Please …
Halloween princesses: Childhood rite of passage or silly stereotype?
Thu Oct 31, 2013
Oh man, the princess thing. This is something that I struggled with this year. My three-year-old daughter wants to be a princess for Halloween. I was initially repulsed by the idea, all I could think about was toddlers in tiaras, the dumbing down and over-sexualizing of little girls, and stupid fair …
